One Room Challenge Spring 2020 Kickoff

We are very excited to announce that we are participating in the The One Room challenge™. Twenty design influencers were selected from around the U.S. to take the challenge of transforming a room and documenting the process and sharing their sources and professional advice over eight weekly posts. The One Room Challenge™ is currently in its seventeenth season, a highly anticipated bi-annual event held every April and October. Due to COVID-19, the kickoff was rescheduled to May 6, 2020.

If you’re not familiar with us, we are interior designers in Atlanta, Georgia and will be celebrating 15 years in business this August. Interior Design is a second career for both of us! We do both residential and commercial design in Atlanta, New York, Chicago and Kiawah Island, South Carolina. We’ve been blogging for over 10 years and started a podcast called “Inside Design with Kandrac & Kole” 2 years ago. If you want to hear our “story”, tune into Episode 1 where we discuss our backgrounds, how we met and the crazy karma story on why we started a podcast!

Here is the group of talented designers we are honored to be a part of:

As featured designers we are fortunate to have the opportunity to include gorgeous products in our space from the generosity of the One Room challenge™ sponsors. Here are some of the brands that have been featured through the most recent challenge:

The space we chose to transform is our “Inside Design with Kandrac & Kole” podcast studio. Our office is located in a culdesac of 8 historic homes that are all businesses. Ours is a 2-story house where we work on the top floor and use the bottom floor for storage and a conference room to give presentations to our clients. When we decided to produce a podcast, we elected to use one of the downstairs rooms where we keep overflow fabric books and various finish samples such as carpet, tile, countertop material, etc. as our studio.

As you can see, it isn’t fancy! It offered good sound absorption and we figured no one would see us anyway. Our podcasts are recorded twice a month and only last 25 minutes. Notice all the wires for our equipment - EEEK!

What is ironic about us deciding to transform this particular room is that, at the time, we had no idea that COVID-19 was about to rock our world. Now that video conferencing and Zoom calls have become an integral part of everyday life, the appearance of our podcast studio has all of a sudden become important (particularly because we have decided to start video recording some of our broadcasts). Our design vision for our podcast studio now has to include beauty, comfort AND functionality! No more hiding away in the extra fabric workroom for us!

You might be wondering where we are going to keep all this material that we still reach for regularly since this room is being transformed. You’ll have to wait and see our clever solution:)

So over the next 8 weeks, you will see us transform this space into a light, bright, energetic, professional work studio that while it will be our podcast studio, could easily be any work space!

Please also keep an eye on the rest of the ORC transformation happening with out talented designer friends.
