Do You "TECHORATE"?

Today we spent some quality time at AmericasMart Atlanta attending a seminar given by the Founder of ApartmentTherapy.com Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan called "Blogs Changed Everything: The intersection of Technology & Design". Yup, he's a cutie. A smart, creative, hip cutie!

One area of discussion that Maxwell brought up is the advent of "techorating" in the world of design. What the heck is that?  Techorating is the blending of modern technology with the art of decorating a space to ensure that the design and electronics suit the style and function of a person's home.

Take the ROKU 2 XS  for example.  This is SO cool - even I could hook this up. All you need is this little ROKU device (no bigger than a coaster), a tv and a high speed internet connection.

The ROKU 2XS streams everything your little heart could desire right to your tv - Over 150,000 movies and shows, 500 entertainment channels, motion based game play, most live sports AND music music music! This little guy uses 20 times less energy than your DVR and 60 times less energy than a gaming console! You can also download the ROKU App to your iPhone and use your phone as a remote!

Joann and I design a lot of home offices. Inevitably it takes us 30 minutes to decipher what wire goes where when we dismantle the client's desk and have to it back together again! The AppleCore Cord Organizer solves all of our problems!

Let's all admit that a massive collection of video games and DVD's is not exactly the most attractive accessory in the family room bookcase. Why not make them look like a clean, sleek collection that's easy on the eyes?

Etsy seller, James Bit has solved this design dilemma! Buyers are sent PDF templates (3 for $6) to print out and slip into the cover sleeves. Voila! A vintage looking paperback book collection instead of a mass of XBox and Playstation games!

I have to admit that I don't use my iPad as much as I should. The main reason why is I really like a keyboard. I love my iPad for browsing Facebook and reading but if I'm going to do a lot of work (i.e. typing), I just don't like it.

So once again, I am going to TECHORATE my office with this Logitech K760 Wireless Solar Keyboard. WOOHOO!

This keyboard charges itself whenever there’s light—and stays charged for at least three months in total darkness. The long-range wireless connection virtually eliminates delays, dropouts and interference - good for me cuz I love to have my iPad on the deck during these gorgeous Fall days.

Here's one more cool idea from where else? The Apple Store. The Chameleon Clock is a big, bold, beautiful clock for iOS. Chameleon Clock blends into your environment by using the camera on the back of your device to either sample the colour of whatever is behind it or play a live video feed. Yours for .99!

Technology can be super intimidating but these ideas shared by Maxwell Gillingham -Ryan of the popular and influential design blog Apartment Therapy are easy and accessible ideas we had to share!

Now please go TECHORATE!
