Episode 95: The “Science” Behind Sherwin Williams Products With Rachel Moeller

1. Intro

As many of you know who listen to our podcast on a regular basis that we are big fans of color and Sherwin Williams paints.  We’ve been lucky to have recorded 3 episodes with Sue Wadden, the Director of Color Marketing where she shared the color forecast for 2019, 2020 and 2021.  Most people don’t realize how much time, effort and man (and woman) power that goes into creating these forecasts.

What we are going to talk about today is the “science” behind paint, the applications and the many options available.  We’ll try to keep it light and not make it sound like a science class!

We are excited that our paint representative Rachel Moeller is with us today to share her expertise as she comes with years of experience in the “technology” of paint and coatings.  We think you will be surprised to find out that paint is not just paint.

Before we get started, we want to let you know that this episode is sponsored by Helser Brothers Hardware.

2. Sponsor

If you are like many people refreshing your home during Covid we hope that new window treatments are a part of those improvements.  We urge you to check out Helser Brothers hardware, our go to company.  With the popularity of home apps and consumers more technically minded, motorized window treatment trends remain strong.  The ability to control a bank of window treatments at one time is no longer a luxury, it has become mainstream.  Helser Brothers motors have a 10 year warranty, which is twice the competition and they ship up to 106” at no charge!  For some great window treatment inspiration click the “gallery” link on their website helserbrothers.com

3. Rachel Moeller

A. Welcome Rachel!  Tell us a little bit about yourself and your role with Sherwin Williams.

B. How many different types of products does Sherwin Williams sell?

C. For the average consumer, can you give us a rundown of a few of the basic paint types that a consumer would use and their applications?

D. We had a conversation this week with Rachel about Harmony Interior Latex paint and Kelly and I were so surprised to learn about this product, that we asked Rachel to be a part of our podcast so we could educate our listeners.  It’s crazy that this product helps improve air quality.  Not only does it have zero VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) which for those who don’t know, are a large group of chemicals that are found in many products we use to build and maintain our homes.  Once these chemicals are in our homes, they are released or “off-gas” into the indoor air we breathe, for example, carpet, cabinets, and fabrics.  We are working with a 93-year-old client to renovate her master bedroom.  She struggles with asthma and we had to be very sensitive to the VOCs with her paint, flooring, and fabrics.

E. Rachel – can you tell us more about this paint?

F. Can you discuss the different sheens and where best to apply them?

G. Tell us about the new Emerald Designer Edition paints?
